By Gemma and Stephen
It’s September, 1947 and the girls are back at school.
Except St Mary’s School for Deaf Girls in Cabra is not the same anymore. It’s seperate and segregated.
Now many of the girls will be taught to speak. This is something different, something new.
For these girls, sign language is banned. It is replaced by lip-reading, speech therapy, microphones and isolation.
Tell is their story told through both Irish Sign Language and spoken English.
