This piece came from two ideas – 1) open the door and 2) backwards. Nepo eht Rood is an exploration of the idea of discovery/questioning, of opening the door, but not in a straightforward way. It is about opening the door to a place you are afraid of and stepping through without looking, possibly backwards, so that what you imagine to be beyond the door (your fear) cannot freeze you to the spot. It is about the voice in your head telling you that you can do it, and that statement being echoed by others who believe in you.
