The Wayside, a solo for Diallo, explores a physicality of fragility and resilience, inspired by the theme of departure. Between the Shingle and the Dune, a duet for Theo Clinkard and Diallo, evokes narratives of togetherness and shifting landscapes of distance and nearness. Created in 2005, this work was recently revived at the invitation of ROH2 at the Royal Opera House.
A doublebill by a new voice from the UK. both pieces are a continuation of Diallos aspiration to find emotional resonance in movement, and attempt to capture something of the fleeting and fragile qualities of human life.
For many years a dancer with Wayne McGregors Random Dance Company, Laïla Diallo is currently associate artist of ROH2 at the Royal Opera House and Woking Dance Festival. Her choreography has toured throughout the UK and internationally. She was awarded a Rayne Fellowship for Choreographers in 2006.
“…heartfelt and nuanced. Even a gesture as simple as tying her shoes or pulling on a overcoat becomes loaded with poignancy, and the final fade into darkness has a tragic wistfulness.” Gareth K. Vile, The Skinny, on The Wayside
