Climate Art Assembly

Roots For The Future - A Radical Climate Thinking Group For & By Artists

An Open Call for four artists to join a Radical Climate Thinking Group!

This radical thinking group will design the parameters for a larger assembly in 2023 when a Climate Art Assembly creates a quorum of Irish Artists from across the country to discuss the role of art in the Climate Crisis. This year four artists will be selected, one from each province, to design the programme for 2023. There will be four meetings across a six month period in which members will discuss the offers and challenges of a full assembly. Each will determine where barriers for engagement might lie and how to make the process as inclusive as possible.

These discussions aim to:

  • Create peer-to-peer support.
  • Increase awareness of challenges and opportunities.
  • Invite artists to the table.
  • Generate creative responses to knotty problems.
  • Highlight unexpected ideas or challenges.
  • Understand how the climate crisis is impacting artists now.
  • Understand what future impacts might look like.

The Thinking Group is open to artists of all disciplines at any stage of their career. The selected artists will participate in group discussion and creative exchange, with an aim to develop a programme and strategy for a pioneering artist-led climate quorum in 2023.

What you can expect from being part of this pilot programme:

  • A fee of €1000 for engagement in four meetings, a conference and any documentation of the process.
  • Support for transport costs and carbon offsetting.
  • Discussion sessions with exciting scientific and academic speakers who will be selected to support the strengths and interests of the project.
  • A selection of tickets to performances and exhibitions at Project Arts Centre.
  • Involvement in an international Symposium on Creative Climate Responses in June 2022.
  • Participation in a thorough documentation of the project, including video footage and social media output.

We will endeavour for all meetings to happen in person and will cover transport for participants, however these plans will adapt to comply with whatever government guidelines require at the time.

Who Should Apply?

  • Artists working on the island of Ireland with a key interest in the climate crisis either as a theme or as a context in which all work is made.
  • People with the ambition of creating work that speaks to the climate crisis with the hope of connecting audiences in a new way.
  • Active participants, who are open to creative conversations and collaborative practice.
  • Artists with availability to attend meetings on: 21st April, 15th June, 18th August and 3rd November.
  • You must be over 18 years of age and have legal status to work in the Republic of Ireland.

How To Apply:
To apply please send the following to submissions@projectartscentre.ie by 5pm on the 25th March
