A NEW LOOK FOR PROJECT ARTS CENTRE!

A new look for Project Arts Centre! The big blue building has thrown open its doors and is inviting you in to enjoy a broad diversity of artists presenting extraordinary work that inspires and provokes.

The big blue building is throwing open the doors and welcoming a bold new look for a bold new horizon!

Project is a home for Artists, Audiences and Communities. With this as our mission, we've used the time over the past two years to revitalise the building, ensuring that the venue is a vibrant space where everything feels possible.

The new signage aligns with Project’s ambitious commitments toward equality, diversity, and inclusion, which inspired us to embark on a redesign of our look and feel.

We want our space to embody a warm welcome for everyone who enters, with colourful new designs creating flow and an exciting ambience throughout the venue.

This is an ongoing process, and we're delighted to present new building signage, new toilets and to announce the re-opening of the bar.

CIAN O’BRIEN, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, & ORLA MOLONEY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, COMMENTED:

"Project is buzzing with ideas and experimentation and we’re excited to welcome artists, audiences and communities to enjoy the very best of Irish and international contemporary art here in the heart of Dublin city. We believe in the value of an equitable, diverse and inclusive artistic and social space and are opening the doors to everyone. We believe the arts are transformative and essential; we have big plans not only for our programme, but also for the building. It has been an extraordinary time; one of challenge, change and opportunity but we are looking ahead and are more than ready for the next chapter."

WHAT’S ON AT PROJECT

We're excited to present and host a rich variety of visual arts, theatre and dance over the coming months. Current and upcoming performances include: Dublin Dance Festival; Dead Centre’s Chekhov's First Play;  ThisisPopBaby’s Party Scene; and Irish Modern Dance Theatre’s Dancer from the Dance Festival.

Our visual arts programme includes exhibitions, talks, performances, workshops and screenings. Now running, and curated by Sara Greavu, Curator of Visual Arts, is Clear Away the Rubble / Glan an Spallaí ar Shiúl, an open research project about housing, one of the most critical issues conditioning the lives of artists and others in Dublin, and Ireland, today. Having started last month, current events in the programme include: recorded online discussion Mother State: on Housing with Helen Charman currently available to watch; Clear Away the Rubble / Glan an Spallaí ar Shiúl Reading Group; National Association of Tenants Organisations (NATO) CATU Research Panel Discussion; DAMP TANK by Avril Corroon; CORPO: The Empty City – Cian O’Callaghan and Tommy Gavin.

Upcoming in the Gallery is a solo show from Danielle Brathwaite Shirley, with guest curator Tendai Mutambu, that will consider Black Trans existence and experience.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Project is committed to being an ever-more equitable, diverse and inclusive space.  All of the changes in the signage, along with the programming and audience development, are informed by Project Art Centre’s policy Towards Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The policy is available to download here.

Project Potential, led by multidisciplinary artist Cathy Coughlan, is Project’s way of developing relationships with new audiences, communities and schools in the local area. A recent initiative is a series of commissions in partnership with RTÉ Culture, which will see a number of artists and social activists produce ambitious and provocative new works, encouraging crucial dialogue around the impact of social and economic inequality. The new works are published online on the first weekend of each month. Participants to date have included Tobi Omoteso, Catherine Joyce, Veronica Dyas and Louis Haugh and throughout the summer months, we will be publishing new digital work from our Short Cuts Artists Adam Mohamed, Roibí O Rua and Al Bellamy.

Project will also continue to present events online as part of its commitment to access and inclusion.

On June 15th, Project will host the inaugural RHIZOME | Green Arts Symposium, connecting arts, science and local communities. Initiated by Project Arts Centre in 2021, in partnership with Trinity College Dublin, Fatima Groups United and the National College of Art & Design, RHIZOME seeks to connect local communities from different backgrounds and disciplines, in creative conversation about the future of our planet. Our creative commons invites you to this local table, to nourish yourself, to taste the possibilities in small digestible pieces and to offer what you can as our rhizome grows.

We can't wait to welcome you!

Project Arts Centre would like to acknowledge the Arts Council and Dublin City Council for their continued support.
