PROJECT ARTIST OPEN CALL 2024-2027
Project Arts Centre (Project) is delighted to announce an open call for two artists/ companies to join our Project Artist Initiative as Resident Artists from 2024-2027.
Running since 2005, the Project Artists’ scheme has supported the work of dozens of artists & companies and employed thousands of artists and arts workers. The scheme has enabled artists and companies to develop, produce and tour cutting edge, contemporary arts work at Project Arts Centre as well as in venues throughout the island of Ireland and across the globe. We are a pioneer in the resourcing of artist’s work.
The Project Artists Scheme has two parts – Resident Artists and Associate Artists. Resident Artists are those whom Project believes are, or are on the way to, establishing a track record in producing and touring work, at a local, national, and international level, who could benefit from higher visibility within Project. Associate Artists are artists whom Project has worked with over time and who have already had the benefit of a range of artistic, financial, and administrative supports. This call-out focuses on Resident Artists.
What is involved in being a Resident Artist?
Through the Resident Artist strand of the Project Artists Initiative, we nurture, mentor, partner, collaborate, network, co-produce and present the work of independent artists, both nationally and internationally.
As a Resident Artist, you will receive a three-year package of support across all areas of Project Arts Centre’s work. Supports will depend on your individual needs and Project’s resources at any particular time. Significant levels of supports will be planned as far ahead as possible. They are likely to include some/ all of the supports outlined below.
General:
Direct access to artistic and strategic advice from Project’s Artistic Director and Executive Director
Direct access to support from Project’s administration team
Promotion for performance through national and international networks
Advocacy in the form of public discussion (Project is active in the arts community and advocates in general for all contemporary artists in this context)
Finance & Administration:
Performance space (discounted rent based on the level of grant an artist has received)
Favourable box office split or guarantee (where possible)
Financial management: budget, cash flow, payroll, taxes
Financial reporting and certification (small costs for audit certs will apply)
Issue payments and cash for the purchase and or rental of materials, costumes, set, flights, and accommodation etc.
Cash advances for costs payable before grant funds are received.
Insurance cover under Project Arts Centre’s Employer’s Liability and Public Liability insurance (for rehearsal and production, small cost will apply)
Provision of employment contracts and employee handbook with guidelines for best practice
Assistance with grant applications
Project management assistance and troubleshooting
Publicity/marketing:
Publicity support
Marketing support, advice and management
Targeted marketing mailings
Inclusion in Project Arts Centre’s general marketing ephemera
Space in the building and on the website to profile the work of the artist/company.
Other supports :
There is potential for more formalised opportunities for peer learning/ mentoring and support across all areas of Project’s work, which may be developed according to The Artist’s specific needs and interests and subject to the resources available to Project at the time.
To apply:
The scheme is open to artists working in the contemporary, experimental performing arts – including (for example) theatre, dance, performance, performance art, live art, experimental circus, experimental music performance and cabaret. Project is interested in working with artists with a cross-disciplinary or multi-disciplinary practice.
Artists should have received a grant or award from a public funding body such as the Arts Council or a local authority.
Artists must have presented work to the public (this can be self-produced or produced by another company/artist).
Artists should include links to at least 2 samples of previous work (including video, audio, images).

Project would particularly welcome applications by artists from a diversity of national, ethnic, or cultural groups (including, but not limited to Asian, Black, Traveller and minority ethnic, refugees, people with disabilities, working-class and LGBTQIAP+ artists).

The deadline for applications is noon on Monday 27 November 2023.
Shortlisted artists will be invited to meet with the Project team and external experts in the week of 11 December 2023.
Final decisions will be made by 20 December 2023.
