Open Call – Future Forecast: WORKSPACE

Project is inviting applications for WORKSPACE – an opportunity for an artist, architect or designer to design and build a new artist workspace studio in our Cube space.

Future Forecast is a series of events and artistic interventions forming part of a speculative voyage towards the future. Future Forecast is a multiway transmission with 2020+ vision.

Who “gets” access to cultural and creative spaces? What happens to a “programme” when no rules apply? How does a building and an organisation inform the art it facilitates/creates/presents and how does that art, in turn, impact it? What questions are artists asking and how can a cultural organisation help artists explore potential answers?

In the future, everyone is an artist, everyone is the audience, and everyone is invited.

Project is inviting applications for WORKSPACE – an opportunity for an artist, architect or designer to design and build a new artist workspace studio in our Cube space.

For 20 years the Cube has been a space where artists and audiences meet, now it will temporarily become a space solely for artists, a space of practice and innovation. Shortly, Project will launch the FLUX Residency, which will be a space of experimentation and collaboration.

While the space must adhere to government health and safety guidelines, it must also be a space which allows the artists to work separately and in collaboration with one another. The space will be for three artists. While audiences will not be able to enter the space, we will expect the artists to work with us to ensure we can engage audiences in some way with the FLUX residency.

The total budget for this Project is €7500, this must include all fees and materials. Project Arts Centre will be able to provide some production support and documentation. The aim is for the space to be ready for artists to work in by the end of December 2020.

Interested applicants should submit a two-page idea (extra pages of images are allowed) and a CV/Bio, including 2 examples of previous work. Please submit them by email to futureforecast@projectartscentre.ie (we will accept Dropbox or WeTransfer links). You can also send any questions and queries to this email address.

Applications are due by 12pm on Friday 23 October 2020. We will communicate decisions by Monday 2 November 2020. Applications will be shortlisted by the Artistic Director, General Manager, Production Manager and Curator of Visual Arts. A short meeting with the team will be part of the section process.

Project welcomes applications from all artists but would like to encourage applications by artists from a diversity of national, ethnic or cultural groups (including, but not limited to, Asian, Black, Traveller and minority ethnic, refugees, people with disabilities, working-class and LGBTQI+ artists). If you’re an artist who usually works in a production context we also want to hear from you.

We look forward to welcoming artists back to work in the big blue building. We are taking every precaution to ensure the protocols are safe, straightforward and comfortable. If further government guidance arises, it may impact on our ability to deliver these programmes. We will keep applicants informed throughout the process.
