FLUX Artists Open Call

Future Forecast is a series of events and artistic interventions forming part of a speculative voyage towards the future. Future Forecast is a multiway transmission with 2020+ vision.

FLUX will create a space to allow art to rebuild and restore. We want to support artists to lay the ground for all the new art that will emerge from this crisis. FLUX is a space for practice, for investment in artists’ time and development. It is aimed at artists who are early in their career, or who are at a point of change in their practice. This is a space where artists will have the opportunity to work on their own projects, but also one where we will work with them to create opportunities for collaboration. Project’s Cube space will be imaginatively designed and transformed to be a creative artist’s WORKSPACE, while meeting all of the health and safety requirements in this time of COVID-19.

This will be a semi-structured programme, FLUX Artists will be asked to commit some time each week to working together in collaboration, sometimes with members of Project’s Curatorial team. Project will work with the FLUX Artists to invite provocations from guest artists, thinkers or people whom the artists believe could inspire their work together. These provocations will be events available to the public. We would aim to have at least one event per month. We want to create a safe space for investigation, questions and discussion. Project does not expect artists to produce work by the end of the FLUX residency, but it may be possible that a future project arises from the collaboration.

There will be three FLUX Artists.

This residency will run from 1 February 2021 – 30 April 2021.

Artists will have access to the WORKSPACE Monday- Saturday. Opening hours are dependent on government restrictions at the time.

This is a paid opportunity and artists will be offered a fee of €3000.

As this is a semi-structured residency, applicants are expected to be resident in the Dublin area for the duration. There are no additional resources to cover travel and accommodation costs. Due to the ongoing requirements of social distancing and the nature of the FLUX programme, we can only accept applications from artists working solo. Priority will be given to artists who do not have access to a studio space over the period of the residency.

Artists should submit a one-page document highlighting their current projects and area(s) of research that they would like to explore in collaboration with other artists – in particular practitioners from other artforms. We would also like a CV/bio and 2 examples of previous work.  Applicants should also indicate whether they currently, or will, have access to a studio.

Please submit them by email to futureforecast@projectartscentre.ie (we will accept Dropbox or WeTransfer links). You can also send any questions and queries to this email address. Applications are due by 12pm on 21 December 2020. We will communicate decisions to artists by 8 January 2021. Applications will be shortlisted by the Artistic Director, General Manager and Curator of Visual Arts.

Project welcomes applications from all artists working in all artforms but would like to encourage applications by artists from a diversity of national, ethnic or cultural groups (including, but not limited to, Asian, Black, Traveller and minority ethnic, refugees, people with disabilities, working-class and LGBTQI+ artists). We are committed to accessibility and want to make sure that our spaces are accessible to all artists.  If any additional supports are required to enable you to participate in this residency, please include the details in your application.  We will work with you to see how we can help remove any barriers, within a limited budget.

We are taking every precaution to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for artists and staff working in Project.  We will provide all resident artists with clear and straightforward protocols for this purpose. These will reflect Government advice on an ongoing basis and may impact on our ability to deliver these programmes. We will keep artists informed throughout the process.
