Hotel Happiness

Dublin Fringe Festival: Chaos Factory presents

11-17 September 2022

A woman sits on the floor of a hotel room looking at a TV screen.
Welcome to Hotel Happiness. An escape from reality. A retreat from yourself. A place to be whoever you want to be for 24 hours only.

Welcome to Hotel Happiness. An escape from reality. A retreat from yourself. A place to be whoever you want to be for 24 hours only. A time to switch off, let go, fantasize, forget. With one rule only, you must come completely alone.

Two women find themselves each in their own private customised room. But what happens when their two worlds collide?

Commissioned by Project Arts Centre, Supported by Mermaid, DCC, and Fishamble’s New Play Clinic and developed at FRINGE LAB. Funded by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. Project Arts Centre is proudly supported by The Arts Council and Dublin City Council.

Chaos Factory is an experimental Dublin based theatre company led by Rachel Bergin, Venetia Bowe and Fionnuala Gygax. The company was born out of a mutual interest and passion for work that is innovative, radical and physically led. We wanted to work collaboratively to devise ambitious contemporary work which pushed the boundaries of conventional narrative framework and theatrical form. Our work is physically led, keeping the body at the centre of our exploration. We are dedicated to creating ambitious, multidisciplinary theatre that examines contemporary society. We experiment with theatrical form to find original ways of presenting material, creating theatre that is playful, strange and beautiful. Our debut production Kiss Kiss Slap Slap was featured in Dublin Fringe Festival 2018. In 2019 Chaos Factory received an Arts Council Project Award to develop new work MorphMe, we presented a work-in-progress performance in Live Collision, 2019 as part of BITE SIZE // SCRATCH. In 2020 We are now in the process of developing MorphMe into a short film, supported by Project Arts Centre, Dublin City Council and Fishamble. Chaos Factory are also developing a new production Hotel Happiness with mentorship from leading Irish Theatre Company Brokentalkers. This development is supported by The Arts Council Project Award.
