Research

Project creates space for artists to test ideas and advance their practice through our Research Supports programme. The programme offers modest development support with no fixed outcome, and may include consultation, curatorial conversation, or funding to enable specific work to progress.

Caroline Mac Cathmhaoil

Caroline Mac Cathmhaoil @restlessidiom is an Irish artist, writer and filmmaker working between Dublin, London and the less explored regions of cosmic experience. Mac Cathmhaoil can also be found working under the name Loitering Theatre. Mac Cathmhaoil’s is an esoteric art practice where video, text, artificial intellect, viral interference and future archaeologies of time are alchemically melded together in order to disrupt the technologies and belief systems of consensus reality; and make visible the hidden networks of the surveillance military industrial complex. No job too small. Idiom assured. Call us.

Their research as part of Project’s Research Supports Project involves two thematically interconnected projects; one considering interconnected histories of Cuba, Ireland and contemporary imperialism (Mirror States) and the other exploring how the unresolved legacies of imperialism in Ireland can impact on the personal contemporary queer Irish experience in London today (Disruptive Pattern Material)

Ruth Clinton & Niamh Moriarty

A Collection of Disarticulated Bones | 2024

Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty are collaborative artists living and working between counties Sligo and Leitrim. They use performance, video, sound installation and storytelling, along with a detailed research process, to convey visions of transience and resistance.

Their recent work tests the possibility of creating a new narrative identity for Ireland that will acknowledge our struggles, admit our complicities and build our capacity for solidarity. In 2024, Sara Greavu and Project Arts Centre supported a new body of work titled ‘A Collection of Disarticulated Bones’. This research project traverses centres of knowledge in the US, UK and Europe in order to unpick different foundation myths of the Global North: institutional, pop cultural and embodied. Ruth and Niamh are interested in how decisions relating to preservation and presentation can shape national and individual identities, in the context of imperialism, late capitalism, rising ethno-nationalism and polarised public debate on both sides of the Atlantic.
