On a sparse and open stage five performers, ranging in age from 30 to 76, share a journey of interactions that lays bare their strengths, efforts and possibilities. Light and poignant in equal measure, Ensemble is a joyous physical expression of togetherness among a group of different ages.

This year’s Dance on Film sees a carefully curated programme of six short films that includes a selection of Light Moves Festival 2018 Award Winners, some recent French releases, and the premiere of CoisCéim’s How to Sink a Paper Boat.

Dr Jenny Roche hosts a panel discussion with Dr Linda Murray, Curator of the Dance Archive at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts; Dr Finola Cronin, Lecturer in Drama Studies at University College Dublin; and Val Bourne CBE, Founder/Artistic Director, Dance Umbrella, London and Founding Board Member, Dublin Dance Festival.

This documentary is a fitting tribute to an extraordinary artist, whose revolutionary take on modern dance is brilliantly explained in a film that places interviews with the master, and footage of his work, front and centre.

This piece for drones and dancers evokes two opposing realities – one of innocent childhood play, the other of deadly modern warfare.

‘We go around at night consumed by fire’, by controversial Italian choreographer Roberto Castello, explores a life engulfed by endless desire. Fusing cinema, dance and theatre, four dancers move together, yet apart.
