Project Fatima: ALL IN

A Collaborative Arts Engagement Programme for 2020

Supported by the Ireland Funds, PROJECT FATIMA: ALL IN will develop the relationship between Fatima Groups United and Project Arts Centre which began in 2018.

We’ll be engaging with work together at Project across the disciplines of Dance, Theatre & Visual Art throughout 2020.  Through seeing work, engaging in discursive sessions and participating in practical workshops with makers,  ALL IN facilitates conversations between community residents and contemporary artists.  ALL IN cultivates the potential for alternative ways of working with contemporary issues and the possibilities for future collaborations between community makers and artists to create and present new work to wider audiences.

Already this year, Fatima Groups United have met with and attended work by Project Artists’ Shaun Dunne and Philip Connaughton, enjoying ‘Restoration’ in January and ‘Mamafesta Memorialising’ in February. We had a mesmerizing time at ‘The Spider’s House’ by Roderick Ford, which is supported by the Project Arts Centre and Arts & Disability Ireland REALISE Award and had great chats afterwards with the cast too.

Group members have also attended ‘In Limbo’ by Kristyn Fontanella Dance and Flora Fauna Project’s Double Bill ‘Pidgin’ & The River’ really enjoying both. And it’s only March!

Later this year, Fatima Groups United and their Community Garden will work with visiting Visual Artist Asa Sonjsasdotter as part of the exhibition ‘Peace with the Earth’ enquiring into soil, habitat, dwelling histories, cultivation and ecological thinking.

We’ll be talking a lot about what’s possible, what isn’t possible yet, and how we can build a real and ongoing collaborative relationship through artistic practice that will last way beyond 2020.

More to come!

Fatima Groups United (FGU) is a family resource centre based in Rialto, where many people experience disadvantage and poverty. FGU led the transformative social and physical regeneration of the flat complex Fatima Mansions and is based in the widely used F2 Community Centre. FGU supports the local community in the areas of health and wellbeing, education, employment, arts, childcare, counselling supports, information and advice, family support and advocacy, civic awareness and community development. It is a lead organisation in the development of Social Prescribing (including social prescriptions to the arts and green prescriptions to nature). While there is a long history of FGU initiated community arts practices there is still a low level of cultural participation in formal arts organisations. It is a key aim of this organisation to extend the scope and depth of its arts programming by creating access points to professional arts and cultural resources in the city and build long term collaborative relationships with professional artists.
