GREEN ARTS COMMISSION AND MENTORSHIP | OPEN CALL 2022
CONNECTING COMMUNITY, ARTS & SCIENCE
Rhizome is a pilot Green Arts programme that aims to highlight the critical role of creativity, optimism, and imagination in the craft of social and environmental change, both locally and internationally.
Developed through the Project Potential Programme, this is an opportunity for an early-career artist of any discipline to work closely with a local community and mentor Maeve Stone, to design a piece of work that encourages new kinds of behaviour in the context of the Climate Emergency.
The project will be developed in partnership with Fatima Groups United, Trinity College Dublin, the National College of Art & Design and the Geary Institute (UCD), and will encourage the intersection of contemporary arts practice, current scientific research and community development.
The primary aim of this project is to shift the messaging around climate change and create space for recovery, exploration and innovation over an extended period of time.
What you can expect from being part of Rhizome
- An artists fee of €6k for 3 months engagement ( 24 days between March - June 2022)
- A budget of €4k for documentation & materials (to be managed by the Project Potential Coordinator)
- Practical and creative mentorship.
- Regular engagement with Fatima Groups United, NCAD & TCD Centre for the Environment.
- Engagement with the Rhizome Exchange Network - Discussion sessions with exciting scientific and academic mentors who will be selected to support the strengths and interests of the project.
- Involvement in an international Symposium on Creative Climate Responses in June 2022.
Who Should Apply?
- New and early career makers who are interested in learning about the process of creating work with an ecological impetus.
- Artists with ambition to create work that reframes the way we communicate about the Climate.
- Active participants, who are open to creative conversations and collaborative practice.
- Artists with availability from March to June 2022 to attend regular community meetings, workshops and events.
- You must be over 18 years of age and have legal status to work in the Republic of Ireland.
Dates and scheduling to be decided in collaboration with the Project Potential Coordinator, to best suit the community and selected artist.

Please note: applicants are not expected to have a fully formed idea at this stage of the application process, as this will be developed in collaboration with the community. However, we would like to see a clear outline of methodology and approach to working in this context.
