Open Call: Project Intensive

Are you an artist who wants to develop their work but you're not currently engaged in mainstream education? Are you curious/critical/restless/bored/mystified/interested in what other artists are making and want to evaluate it and understand it?

Project Arts Centre is delighted to announce a new pilot artist programme: Project Intensive.

Join us for a programme of watching, listening, thinking, chatting, critiquing, complaining, learning, ...of finding the pleasure and power in art and building networks of solidarity and support with other artists.

Project Intensive is aimed at artists who are not yet established in their careers, but who have a professional practice of at least 2 years which engages with contemporary arts and ideas – we will welcome applications from artists working in any artform. Project Intensive is about embracing learning as a collective practice.

Project Intensive aims to provide 5 early career artists with a toolkit to enrich and develop their practice. It will provide an informal but rigorous programme in which participants will encounter new works and new ideas, critically discuss their own practice and that of others, and build a network of peers – locally and nationally. Artists will also be offered the opportunity to work with a mentor and invite guest speakers to meet with the group. The detail of the programme will be shaped in response to the needs and interests of the group selected.

Project Intensive will be shaped around three moments of gathering in Dublin, Limerick and Belfast. Artists will be invited to engage with local institutions and artists and begin to think about their work in the national context.

Artists will be asked to commit to 6 days between 1 October-31 December. There are 5 places available. This is a paid opportunity and artists will be offered €250/day along with all travel expenses, subsistence etc.

As Project Intensive is a pilot programme, we will ask artists to take part in an evaluation process to inform the future development of the programme.

Project welcomes applications from all artists working in all art forms but would like to encourage applications by artists from a diversity of national, ethnic or cultural groups (including, but not limited to Asian, Black, Traveller and minority ethnic, refugees, people with disabilities, working-class and LGBTQI+ artists). We are committed to accessibility and want to make sure that our opportunities are accessible to all artists.  If any additional supports are required to enable you to take up this opportunity, please include the details in your application.  We will work with you to see how we can help remove any barriers, within our limited budget.

Apply:

In order to apply please send a copy of your CV or a bio (max 500 words) along with an answer to the following questions:

Why do you feel this programme is right for you at this point in your practice? (max 250 words)

We would also like you to name 2 artists whose work is inspiring you at the moment.

You can contact us in writing, by audio or on video. Please send all queries to Project Intensive Coordinator, Kate Heffernan at intensive@projectartscentre.ie.

The final deadline for applications is 12pm on Thursday 30 September.
