In 1972 the Deaf community came together at a time when they were institutionalised and marginalised in their first act of political awakening to protest the shooting dead of Eamonn McDevitt by the British Army. Days before Bloody Sunday and weeks before its burning down, they marched on the British embassy in Dublin.
you told me to wash and clean my ears, a new work springing from Deaf history weaves live art, community theatre and Irish Sign Language. Working collaboratively for the first time at Tiger Dublin Fringe, this performance goes back to look forward to the recognition of ISL and the rights of Deaf people.
