Ways of Living - Quilombo Terra’s Third Anniversary
4 April 2026
Join us for an informal and welcoming event designed to connect you with the spirit of the ‘Quilombo’—a powerful community of resistance, freedom, and cultural preservation. This is a space for dynamic dialogue, where we will explore the historical roots of the Quilombo and what it looks like to reimagine this community in a European context. Together, we will reflect on our own ‘ways of living’ and discover practical ways to engage in counter-colonial practices, considering how our daily choices directly impact our collective and our environment.
The afternoon will feature a compelling panel dedicated to the themes of Ways of Living and Counter Colonisation, guided by three distinct voices. Alessandra Azeviche, co-founder of Quilombo, offers essential insights into the movement’s foundations and ancestral philosophy. She is joined by Amanda Tehuti, a leading voice on consciousness and societal structures who focuses on the vital work of internal decolonization. Completing the trio, Maïra Oliveira Aggio enriches the dialogue by drawing on the transformative research and legacy of Master Nego Bispo, exploring global and local resistance through the lens of counter-colonization.
Following the panel, we transition from theory to practice with ‘Confluence’, a live demonstration by luthier Chico Feitosa. In a profound metaphor for the reciprocal exchange of knowledge, Chico will construct a traditional Berimbau (the musical heart of Capoeira) using a wood picket sourced in Ireland. This act illustrates how migration reshapes our relationship with the land, showing how nature provides the materials to integrate new cultural forms within an existing environment.
