The Sweet Spot – August Edition
28 August 2026
This month at The Sweet Spot we’re hosting a discussion with Kate Butler exploring Dance & DJ culture and self-sufficiency within it.
In the dance music world, we like to talk about “community building”, “being inclusive” and “safe spaces”. In this talk and discussion, DJ and writer Kate Butler asks, are these buzz words, or do they carry real meaning for us? And if these values are important to us, how do we ensure that they endure in the face of relentless commercial capture? Kate Butler alongside Sweet Spot host Blkcnvs will be having an open discussion exploring how we make ourselves resilient and protect our joy.
As usual there will be space to let loose & unwind at The Sweet Spot with riddims by Blkcnvs afterwards!
The Sweet Spot is a monthly get together and late-night house party at Project Arts Centre with a shared commitment to presence and cultural connection in Dublin City Centre. No hype, no pressure – just good music and some open minds.
House Rules:
• Come with an open mind—to music & people.
• Respect & look after each other.
• Feel free to take up space but remember to leave space for others.
• Enjoy the moment while it lasts and forget about your phone.
• If you feel the riddims… DANCE!
Rialacha an Tí:
• Tar le hintinn oscailte – leis an gceol agus na daoine
• Bíodh meas agus cúram agat do chuile duine
• Glacaigí spaś ach bí cinnte spás a fhágáil do dhaoine eile
• Bainigí sult as agus déan dearmad ar do ghuthán
• Má mhothaíonn tú an rithim – bí ag DAMHSA!
