The Bird with the Human Tongue is an investigation of the metaphysical relationship we have with clay, the physical, earthy and elemental connectedness of it.
The performed text is fictional piece that is rooted in informed investigation based around the act of Geophangia, the action by humans and animals of eating raw clay.
It takes the form of a ritualistic reading and physical accumulation, happening sporadically in the gallery for the duration of the show.
The work is a marker for the conversation Eleanor will initiate with dramaturge Dan Colley, concerning this research, during the duration of the show. This dialogue will be made public towards the end of the exhibition.

Born in Wexford Ireland, Eleanor Duffin currently lives and works between Brussels, Belgium and Wexford, Ireland. Oscillating between the domestic and the alchemical, Eleanor’s works are predominantly sculptural in nature and are characterised by the tension between materiality and form.
