Bealtaine revisits the themes of the original ‘Silver Stars’ project for the 30th anniversary of the festival. Previous iterations of Silver Stars include the sell-out run in the 2009 Dublin Theatre Festival, followed by the highly successful, international tour of a full stage version produced by Brokentalkers. Silver Stars is based on singer/songwriter Millar’s interviews with older gay men in the community from 2008/2009. Described as “extraordinary” by the Irish Times, the moving and eloquent telling of real-life stories of ordinary men in search of happiness and fulfilment in a country that was challenged by their existence. A short, additional commissioned piece ‘Beautiful’ will feature as part of the evening. It is a new, 15 minute spoken word song, based on interviews with two older gay performing artists about youth, beauty and fun. Commissioned by Bealtaine Festival and supported by the Community Foundation.
Ireland’s national celebration of the arts and creativity as we age, marks three decades of vibrant, fun, and contemporary festivities in 2025.
