SketchUp Basics for Art Workers: Artists, Curators and Technicians

Project Learning presents

25 April - 6 June 2023

SketchUp is a simple and powerful tool that can be used to clearly communicate ideas through accurate 3D models.

A course in 6 sessions with Andreas Kindler Von Knobloch.

Dates: April 25th, May 2nd, 16th, 23rd, 30th, and June 6th

SketchUp is a simple and powerful tool that can be used to clearly communicate ideas through accurate 3D models. These models can aid you in calculating quantities, figuring out layouts and creating an overall design for any project.

During this six week course we will be developing the principal skills for communicating exhibition design using sketch-up make 2017. In a course suitable for beginners, we will start with the basics and learn how to build accurate spaces and objects using the different tools that SketchUp offers. Throughout the course we will build a sample gallery space and furnish it with artworks. We will then learn how to import and export files and work towards creating a production document that can be used as a manual for how the exhibition should be installed. The sessions will be mostly online with an option for some in person sessions for those based in Dublin. The structure of the course will combine presentations on how to work in SketchUp as well as time to ask questions and trouble shoot problems.

Like any tool it requires practice, this course will provide the skills and time to get a working
understanding of the program.

Sessions will last one hour with bookable slots for on-to-one tutorials after each session.

Dates for the course are April 25th, May 2nd, 16th, 23rd, 30th, and June 6th. Please ensure your availability on these dates as we expect the course to be popular!

Please get in touch with us on sara[at]projectartscentre.ie if the course fee makes it inaccessible to you, we have a couple of subsidised places.

Project Arts Centre is proudly supported by The Arts Council and Dublin City Council.

Andreas Kindler von Knobloch is currently based in Dublin. His multidisciplinary practice is focused on ideas of collectivity and participation through the creation of structures and situations that question our material and social relations. Working in a variety of materials his work often seeks to help out or solve a perceived need, in a way that feels both utopian and pragmatic.
