Irish theatre’s young generation take the stage with the National Youth Theatre in a powerful new play by acclaimed playwright Carmel Winters, Salt Mountain.
On a mountainside in the Middle East, a band of exiles flee war and genocide in a play about loss and love, hunger and hope, censorship and truth.
NAYD has been producing the National Youth Theatre since 1983.
The National Youth Theatre (NYT) is an ensemble production created with a cast of young people from youth theatres across Ireland. The young cast work with professional artistic and technical teams over a four-week period, culminating in performance in a major theatre venue.
NYT is an opportunity to showcase the artistic talent and professionalism of young people, and secures the place of youth drama on the main-stage in Ireland. Past productions have included Gulliver's Travels (2013), A Dream Play (2010), The Seagull (2009) and The Caucasian Chalk Circle (2007).
NAYD (National Association for Youth Drama in Ireland) is the development organisation for youth drama and theatre in Ireland. NAYD delivers an annual national youth drama programme for young people; provides training for youth theatre directors and leaders; commissions new writing, publications, resources and research; and provides advice and guidance to our membership of 55 affiliated youth theatres nationwide.
