Restoration

Shaun Dunne presents

28 January - 1 February 2020

In the wake of a violent outburst by a young person, the staff at a youth service in Dublin are attempting to move on. But healing is hard when you're on the floor and out the door.

In the wake of a violent outburst by a young person, the staff at a youth service in Dublin are attempting to move on. But healing is hard when you’re on the floor and out the door. Healing is hard when your wounds are still raw…

Made in consultation with youth workers from the north inner-city, Restoration is a new play from the award-winning Shaun Dunne (Rapids, Making a Mark) directed by Darren Thornton (A Date for Mad Mary), exploring the politics of restorative practice and youth work in Ireland.

“A surprising and striking piece of work that pushes the documentary form a bit further, and challenges our expectation of it.”
The First was a Boy by Shaun Dunne (2019), Cork Film Festival Cork Film Festival

★★★★ “Rapids builds a skilful, shocking picture of how such shame persists in isolation, how stigmas are maintained by silence and how invisibility perpetuates the problem.”
“a work as involving and compassionate as Rapids could the beginning of an antidote” The Irish Times on Rapids by Shaun Dunne (2018), National Tour

★★★★ “…the emotional payload is certainly robust enough to make an audience question its own behaviour long after the lights have come up.”
The Irish Times on Advocacy by Shaun Dunne (2015), Project Arts Centre

★★★★ “…a promising theatrical display, combining harsh realism with the odd metaphorical marvel.”
The Herald on The Waste Ground Party by Shaun Dunne (2014), The Abbey Theatre
