Sibéal Davit Dance presents

12-13 December 2023

Sibéal Davitt, a white Irish woman in her thirties, is dancing alone on a stage. The image showcases the dancer in profile, mid-dance in a dynamic pose against a dark background. Clothed in a lighter-toned sleeveless top and darker trousers, the dancer's body is slightly twisted with head bent and arms outstretched, embodying a sense of movement, excitement and power. One knee is raised in a jump, as if she is about to stamp her foot. The darkness of the background accentuates the energy in the scene. Strands of black foil are caught in her hands and tossed in the air around her, catching the light.
Join one-time reality tv star Sibéal Davitt as she dances her unique mix of contemporary and traditional styles to Las Vegas and back again.

Minseach (she-goat) is a sean-nós dancer’s journey through time, from being a cailín álainn to a full blown she-goat. Join one-time reality tv star Sibéal Davitt as she dances her unique mix of contemporary and traditional styles to Las Vegas and back again. A love letter to the Irish language, Minseach is about being seen; through success and failure, through ageing and injury, through past and present. It’s about messing up, dressing up, stepping up – and embracing your inner goat.

BIOGRAPHIES

Sibéal Davitt is a dance artist, performer and teacher from Dublin. Her style of dance is influenced by contemporary, classical and Irish traditional sean-nós dance, having trained in all styles from an early age

In 2009 she won ‘Glas Vegas’, a national talent competition televised on TG4, and subsequently performed in Las Vegas and at leading venues around the world. In 2014 Sibéal received her MA in Contemporary Dance Performance with first class honours at University of Limerick. Subsequently she was awarded Dance Ireland’s Mentored Residency Award under renowned performer Colin Dunne.

As part of the 1916 commemorations, Sibéal choreographed and performed in RTÉ’s ‘Centenary’ which was televised live on Easter Monday from the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. In April 2016, Sibéal created and performed Fógraím / I Proclaim at the GPO as part of ‘Embodied’, a series of 6 solos by Irish female choreographers commissioned by GPO: Witness History Public Art Commission and Dublin Dance Festival.

In 2019 Sibéal was one of five recipients of An Chomhairle Ealaíon’s inaugural Markievicz award. She was Dance Ireland’s Associate Artist in 2020 and used these supports to begin the process of making new works. Her latest solo dance show Minseach (she-goat) premiered at Draíocht in Blanchardstown as part of Dublin Fringe Festival 2021. The show was critically acclaimed and is set to return in Autumn 2023.

Sibéal also teaches regular ‘sean-nós’ dance classes in schools and studios around Dublin. She has taught workshops all over the world including UK, France, Russia, Austria, and New York City as well as at many traditional Irish music festivals. Sibéal performed at Electric Picnic for 8 years as well as other music festivals such as Body&Soul, Wellfest and Green Man Festival, Wales.
