Making It Up: new work by authors participating in The Stinging Fly's Fly on the Wall sessions
The Stinging Fly is proud to present an evening of new writing presented by four very brilliant writers.
Reading from works in progress and as-yet-unpublished novels and poems, the writers will be airing writing that has never before seen the public light.
This is a rare and exclusive opportunity to see and hear world-class writing that is still in the process of being made. These works are not yet bound in a book; they mightn't have a title or be typed up; some of the authors may even (in their head at least) be editing their work as they read from it aloud.
Martina Evans is a poet and novelist and teacher. The author of ten books of prose and poetry, she grew up in County Cork before moving to London in 1988. Her most recent poetry collection, Burnfort Las Vegas, was shortlisted for the Irish Times Poetry Now Award 2015. Martina will read from her novella in progress, Now We Can Talk Openly About Men, and from The Windows of Graceland: New and Selected Poems to be published by Carcanet in May 2016.

Niall Griffiths was born in Liverpool and has been living at the foot of a mountain in mid Wales for two decades. He is the author of seven novels, three works of non-fiction, and more novellas, short stories, radio plays, reviews etc than he cares to, or probably even can, count. The film of his third novel, Kelly+Victor, won a BAFTA. His work has been translated into twenty languages so far. Niall will be reading from his nearly-finished new novel.

Jon McGregor has written three novels and a collection of short stories, This Isn't The Sort Of Thing That Happens To Someone Like You. He won the Impac International Dublin Literary award in 2012, for his third novel, Even The Dogs. He is writer in residence at the University of Nottingham, where he edits The Letters Page, a literary journal. He lives in Nottingham. Jon will be reading from Reservoir 13, to published by 4th Estate in April 2017.

Lisa McInerney is the author of The Glorious Heresies, which has been longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. Her stories have been published in The Stinging Fly, in The Long Gaze Back, edited by Sinéad Gleeson, and Town and Country, edited by Kevin Barry. She lives in Gort, County Galway. Lisa will be reading from her as-yet-untitled second novel.
