Lessness by Samuel Beckett

Grey sky no cloud no sound no stir earth ash grey sand...
We enter a vast desert landscape and glimpse the contours of a small body, standing fixed, amid ruins or refuge.
Olwen Fouéré, a beguiling physical presence with a phenomenal vocal technique, invites you to reflect on the many refractions of this profoundly evocative Beckett text.
Lessness premiered at the Beckett International Season at the Barbican, London in June and was then presented at the Galway International Arts Festival, both in 2015.
Fouéré's most recent creation, riverrun, an adaptation and performance of the voice of the river from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake, was presented to sold out audiences here at Project in 2013 and 2015.
It has also toured to London, Edinburgh, New York, Princeton, Adelaide and Sydney.

The Guardian

"Fouéré gives every word of Beckett’s 60 sentences considered weight; she turns a venue … into a space for meditation"

Company History:
TheEmergencyRoom (a necessary space) was created by Olwen Fouéré in 2009 for projects “in need of immediate attention” and as a virtual holding space for the development of performance-based ideas which are followed by partnerships with established production companies for the full creation of the work.
TheEmergencyRoom’s most recent project is the internationally acclaimed riverrun, adapted and performed by Olwen Fouéré as the voice of the river in Finnegans Wake by James Joyce . Since its world premiere at the Galway International Arts Festival 2013, riverrun has been presented in Dublin, London, Edinburgh, New York, Adelaide and at the Sydney Theatre Company.
Other projects include Fouéré’s translation and performance of Sodome, my love by Laurent Gaudé, directed by Lynne Parker and produced in association with Rough Magic, which was nominated for four Irish Times Theatre Awards, receiving best sound design and best actress.
Other projects include a 30-minute film by Olwen Fouéré and Kevin Abosch, Cassandra: fragments of a playscript, written by Anne Enright, featuring Fouéré and artist Alice Maher.
