It’s Cool in The Shade is a new play by Kwaku Fortune exploring grief and loss in a multicultural Irish family. It takes the much-loved kitchen sink Irish drama and puts it through the lens of a mixed race, African-Irish family giving a platform to black and mixed-race Irish actors and tells a story that hasn’t been seen before on an Irish stage.
A universal story of death, family, brotherhood and how the past never stays buried, people don’t forget and some wounds can’t be healed.
A work in progress reading. Originally developed by Smock Alley Theatre as part of the 2021 Rachel Baptiste Programme.
