Hear My Hands

Karen Gleeson and the Civic present HEAR MY HANDS in association with Project Arts Centre

7-8 July 2022

Three images are combined to make one main image for the show Hear My Hands. The first is a close up shot of two white mannequin hands laying on a floor, the second is of a dancer in a cream body suit with full mask face covering also in the colour cream kneeling on their hands and knees and looking down at a number of mannequin hands on the floor, the third image is of the same dancer sitting down with feet akimbo and arms spread with mannequin hands laid out in front of them.
A multi-disciplinary collaborative performance piece, exploring the use of sign language and the use of movement as a form of communication.

The Discussion will be led by facilitator and deaf artist Alvean Jones, deaf performance artist Paula Clarke and dance artist Marion Cronin. The panel will discuss the unique working process of creating ‘Hear my Hands’. The discussion will be interpreted through ISL by Shelley Parkinson and will allow audience members the opportunity to ask questions and to gain insight into the working collaboration and the communication obstacles the artists have encountered whilst working with ISL and BSL and spoken word.
