This is the third Ginga Girando a Gira event organized by Quilombo Terra.
Quilombo Terra aims to share Afro-Brazilian traditions through dance, film, and cultural studies, blending old and new expressions of Afro-diaspora heritage.
We are excited to host a workshop led by Jorge Ciprianno from Lisbon, a teacher of Afro-Brazilian Contemporary Dance. This is his second visit to our Quilombo and his first time teaching in Ireland. Participants will learn from Jorge’s vast knowledge and passionate teaching style, exploring the history and cultural meaning of Afro-Brazilian movements and how they influence dance today.
After the workshop, we will celebrate with a Sementes do Cerrado Samba de Roda. Samba de Roda is a traditional Afro-Brazilian dance and music form from Bahia, Brazil, recognized by UNESCO for its cultural importance. This lively and interactive celebration invites everyone to join in the spontaneous circle (roda) of music, song, and dance. The Sementes do Cerrado group will lead this authentic experience, sharing the spirit and energy of this cherished Brazilian tradition. It’s a chance to fully experience the collective joy and community spirit of Samba de Roda, creating a truly memorable end to our event.
Following that, there will be a Sweet Spot Social – Brazilian Style – in the Upper Foyer & Bar following the day’s events. This is to let loose, celebrate and come together in a safe space!
