Dead Air Rehearsal Reading

NOTEXCEPTIONAL THEATRE presents

29 July 2023

A digital image. On the right, a white woman’s face with a flower on her right eye is positioned on a black background. Just above, connected by branches to her broken skull is her brain made of mechanical parts. Instead of her neck, there are tree roots. On the left side is a pixelated pink blotch in a mixture of small, coloured dots blurs halfway across the screen. The face and brain of the woman on the right are gaining the same colours that are invading the screen.
Step into a world where the spoken word fades into silence, and the pulse of electronic communication takes centre stage.

Step into a world where the spoken word fades into silence, and the pulse of electronic communication takes centre stage.

Dead Air is a play that explores the gradual replacement of face-to-face interaction by a symphony of electronic devices. Through the ethereal voices of cell phones, computers, artificial intelligence, and more, characters navigate a reality where physical meetings become obsolete. Relationships are forged and unraveled through the digital realm, as messages of love are exchanged, employees dutifully follow emails, and communities assemble via satellites.

This immersive narrative blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, revealing a haunting truth—our existence is intricately woven with an immaterial, yet palpable, technological landscape. Brace yourself for a journey into a world where connections transcend physicality, and the profound impact of digital communication echoes endlessly.

DEAD AIR is proudly supported by The Arts Council.

Project Arts Centre is proudly supported by the Arts Council and Dublin City Council.
