Dancer from the Dance Festival of Irish Choreography is a series of mixed programmes or gatherings of Irish and Irish-identifying choreographers, crossing borders of ethnicity, dance practices, generations, genders and dance styles from Contemporary to sean nós to classical ballet. Now in its 8th year, the festival features over 22 choreographers performing short exciting dance works celebrating the strength and diversity of the Irish identity and the Irish dance landscape.

Partners include Dance Ireland, Project Arts Centre, IFI Irish Film Institute, Dublin City Council, Galway Dance and Millenium, Année européenne des Normands

Rory Fitzgerald – CROSS Contamination (Choreographer); dancers: Santiago Novo, Raphael Lacombe, Rory Fitzgerald, Natalie Fabiola Gustavsen, Giacomo Liam Durante 13 minutes 

Julie Lockett – Landgut (Choreography, performance and text) 12 mins 

Magdalena Hylak – Standing (Choreographer); dancers: Roberta Ceginskaite and Magdalena Hylak 20 minutes 

Favour Odusola – Way (Choreography and performance) 10 mins 

Intermission 15 minutes 

Rosie Mullin, God Love Her (Choreography and performance) 20 minutes 

Ruaidhri Maguire – Nocte Angelli (Choreography), Dancer Callum McGregor 7 minutes

PANEL DISCUSSION – The Dancing Body – Who gets to be Irish?

A Panel talk on the contemporary perceptions of Irishness and concepts of the Irish dancing body. Moderated by Seona MacReamoinn: a dance writer for numerous publications including The Irish Times and Sunday Times. 

Speakers include: 

Ghaliah Conroy is an Irish/French Guianese Maker and Performer based in Dublin. She graduated from Fontys Dance Academy with a bachelor’s degree in Dance and Choreography and has since had an Inter-Disciplinary approach when it comes to performing, creating and working in the arts. Ghaliah is very much interested in political work and views the world with an open critical eye, never shying away from discomfort. Her dance film ‘SUNKEN WORKS/don’t bite’ recently won the French Ministry of Culture award at the Cannes dance film festival. Ghaliah most recently performed in The Gate Theatre’s ‘POOR’, ANU Theatre’s show ‘The Good Luck Club’, Malaprop’s ‘HOTHOUSE’ and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ in the Bord Gais Theatre. She also premiered her solo dance show ‘SUNKEN WORKS’ in The Netherlands and then The Project Arts Centre as part of Live Collision. 

Louise Costello, Programme Producer at Dance Ireland, Specialties: arts management, creative producing and programming, dance dramaturgy and choreographic thinking, project and events management. 

Dr Ebun Joseph, lecturer, author, and consultant. She is founder and module coordinator of the first Black Studies module in Ireland, CEO and Founder of the Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies(www.iabs.ie).
