Leading traditional Irish dance artist Colin Dunne opens the Festival with his highly-anticipated new solo show. In Concert, he confronts the music of virtuoso traditional Irish fiddle player, Tommie Potts (1912-1988).
Potts’ iconic 1972 album 'The Liffey Banks' is the only recording of his music commercially released in his lifetime. Although renowned for its delicate, melancholic and playful qualities, it is widely considered to be unsuitable for dancing to. Armed with an LP, tape recorder, portable speakers and sheets of flooring, Dunne sets out to ‘dance’ this controversial album in a concert like no other.
Collaborating with Sinéad Rushe, director of his Olivier Award-nominated solo 'Out of Time', and acclaimed composer Mel Mercier, in Concert Dunne embodies the lonesome and deviant nature of the music in his innovative style that is as evocative and idiosyncratic as Potts’ own.
“An unprecedented achievement: an Irish dance performance of emotional and intellectual complexity “ The New York Times on Out of Time
