Cock and Bull

Live Collision present

27 April 2019

Responding to the meaninglessness and repetition of empty political promise, the privilege of the governmental elite and the deep discontent of an increasingly disproportionate and divided society, this work is part protest, part catharsis, part exorcism.

Winner of the Total Theatre Award for best physical/visual theatre, Edinburgh fringe 2016.
Originally conceived for the eve of the 2015 UK general election, Cock and Bull sees three females convene to perform their own, alternative, party conference. Exploring power, voice, agency and sustainability, they use the most heard phrases from Conservative governmental rhetoric, to dismantle and redress dominant paradigms of power and Politics.
Responding to the meaninglessness and repetition of empty political promise, the privilege of the governmental elite and the deep discontent of an increasingly disproportionate and divided society, this work is part protest, part catharsis, part exorcism. It becomes, in part, a demonstration of togetherness.
Cock and Bull is a transforming choreography of words and a passionate speech of the body, underpinned with the real-time energy of political dissatisfaction and tory tongue-speak.

[stars-5] The Stage

[stars-4] ‘A blistering, beautiful act’. What’s On Stage

[stars-4] ‘Astonishing…Unforgettable performances’ The Scotsman

[stars-5]  ‘Amid the high-spirited satire there are some exquisite moments, hewn from constant repetition and refrains, from the weariness of bodies glistening with the sweat of exertion, and from the passion of righteous anger. There is a sense of grief at the way the pursuit of political power destroys language, decency and trust and how we fall for golden promises that deliver nothing but dust.’ The Guardian

‘there is defiance, and optimism, and beauty. This is a stunning and memorable—by no means an easy—piece of performance’ Exeunt Magazine

‘Some pieces of art get overtaken by events. Some events get overtaken by pieces of art. Cock and Bull is that odd, rare thing: a show that feels at once current and prescient. It’s a thing of then and now and whatever the hell might be next.’ British Theatre Guide
