In Blue three childhood friends have a week to go to the end of school, to the end of innocence, to the end of friendship. Des, Danny and Joe live in an isolated sea-side town and to break the stifling monotony, the threesome have developed a daily high risk ritual - together they jump from the cliffs deep into the blue of the ocean. In those panicked seconds they believe anything is possible, and that their hopes and dreams may just come true. But they wind up frantically thrashing around in the deep end, when a series of individual humiliations propel them on a face-saving trip to the city and a disastrous attempt at a drug deal.
Blue was nominated for the Stuart Parker Award in 2000 and its success played a contributory role in Ursula’s subsequent receipt of the Irish Times/ESB Theatre Bursary later that year.
