Beyond the Binary: An Interactive Workshop

Project Arts Centre, Prime Cut Productions and Stacey Gregg Present

14 March 2018

Anne Freeman, Beyond the Binary Workshop - Events at Project Arts Centre, Dublin
An interactive workshop for actors and theatre makers exploring the stereotypes and challenges that we face when it comes to gender roles and what steps can be taken to continue progression in moving beyond gender binaries and tropes.

An interactive workshop led by Anna Martine Freeman with Oscar O'Leary Fitzpatrick
Beyond the Binary is for actors and theatre makers exploring the stereotypes and challenges that we face when it comes to gender roles and what steps can be taken to continue progression in moving beyond gender binaries and tropes.

  • Connect like-minded Actors and theatre makers who want to see and explore beyond the Binary. How can we de-centre and subvert expectations around gender and identity through play?
  • Discuss the industry and how it has changed, progressed, regressed – i.e. in Elizabethan times male actors would play female characters as a standard, their gender did not get in the way of the storytelling. Could we see a future world where an actor’s ability to portray a character is valued beyond their gender?
  • Challenge the stereotypes and clichés about gender that we are constantly having to come up against as actors and theatre makers.
  • Empower actors and theatre makers to bring their identity to their work and explore moving beyond the social categories that don’t serve the stories we want to tell!

Please note that this event takes place in Studio 4, The Lab, Foley Street, Dublin 1
