Art Walk with Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, Black Church Print Studio and the Gallery of Photography

17 August 2021

A free lunchtime outdoor tour introducing four contemporary art exhibitions in Temple Bar.

A free lunchtime outdoor tour introducing four contemporary art exhibitions in Temple Bar.

Join us at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios to meet their Programme Curator Michael Hill for an introduction to Tour Donas by Lucy McKenzie. We will then move next door to The Library Project for an introduction to Black Church Editions, presented by Black Church Print Studio. Then, on to Project Arts Centre for an introduction to All Our Relations / Ár gCaidreamh Uilig, followed by a short walk to the Gallery of Photography to visit Parr’s Ireland: 40 Years of Photography.

This 40 minute curator-led tour is a great introduction to contemporary art in Ireland and an opportunity to gain insight into exhibitions and art organisations in the Temple Bar cultural community in a relaxed and engaging way.

We'll meet on Tuesday 17 August 2021 at 2pm outside Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. Book a spot and be introduced to our vibrant contemporary arts organisations and community.

Lucy McKenzie’s first solo exhibition in Ireland, Tour Donas at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, has grown out of an ongoing dialogue with curator Pádraic E. Moore. Featuring paintings, sculptures and elements of décor, this exhibition highlights the heterogeneity of McKenzie's practice. Weaving together fragments of art historical narratives with topical contemporary subjects, Tour Donas explores appropriation, authorship and the hierarchies between artforms.

Black Church Editions, presented by Black Church Print Studio at The Library Project, showcases the work of established Irish print artists – all members of Black Church Print Studio.

All Our Relations / Ár gCaidreamh Uilig is a group exhibition with new commissions from Jenny Brady and Moad Musbahi, works by Maryam Tafakory and Naeem Mohaiemen and a public programme with Amal Khalaf, Anna Bunting-Branch and Aliyah Hussain – set within an exhibition framework based on the ad hoc Covid screens that have defined our public space in recent months.

Parr’s Ireland: 40 Years of Photography at Gallery of Photography is the first survey exhibition of Martin Parr’s Irish photography, spanning a forty-year period from 1979 to 2019. Viewed by many as the essential English photographer, Martin Parr has actually had a long relationship with Ireland. Between 1980 and 1982 Parr came to live in Ireland, making his home in Boyle, County Roscommon. During this time he photographed extensively in the West of Ireland.
