Would you like an opportunity to introduce your friends and family to contemporary art? Three of Dublin’s most well-known city centre contemporary art galleries, Project Arts Centre, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and The Douglas Hyde Gallery are joining forces to offer a guided walking tour that takes place across these venues. The tours introduce their current exhibitions to those who might not be so familiar with contemporary art and offer an interesting insight into the work for those who are. The whole tour will take about 60 minutes (approx.), with 15-20 minute tours taking place in each gallery.
Starting at Project Arts Centre, visitors will be treated to a guided tour of the exhibition The Centre for Dying on Stage #1 by Assistant Curator Emer Lynch. This exhibition features work by Karl Burke, Dina Danish, Dan Graham, Krõõt Juurak, Christodoulos Panayiotou and Meggy Rustamova. Emer will then walk the visitors to the next venue, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, where Assistant Curator Sophie Behal will give an introduction to the exhibition this attentive place by Caoimhe Kilfeather. Finally, visitors will be led to The Douglas Hyde Gallery, where Gallery Assistant Rachel McIntyre will give a short tour of Dukkha, a group show featuring artists Aleana Egan, Jaki Irvine, Fergus Feehily, Sam Keogh, and Paul Mosse, as well as give some background information to the early 20th century Irish silent films on show in Gallery 2.
For those who want to continue on the art trail, ask in The Douglas Hyde Gallery for instructions on how to follow Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty’s intriguing walking tour of Trinity College Dublin; a Gallery 3 project running for one week only. Café Gray on Dawson Street is also offering a free treat (cookie/ brownie) with every coffee purchased, especially for tour members!
We’ll meet Tuesday 19th August at 12.00pm at Project Arts Centre. Book a free spot for your parents, friends, cousins, housemates and anyone who you think might like to learn more about the things you love.
