Theatre / 09 Jan 2013 6In 1987 the Gay Byrne radio show dumped Gerry Ryan and some other volunteers in the wilds of Connemara. They were to survive with no materials or money, just an SAS handbook. When they reported that they had killed and eaten a lamb, it sparked national controversy and was even raised in the Dáil. It was a story ahead of its time, foreshadowing reality TV and modern media feeding-frenzies.
