This production marks the premiere of the Welsh playwright’s work in Ireland. In recent years, Gary Owen’s plays have enjoyed huge success with critics and audiences alike. His work has been produced by many of Britain’s leading new writing companies including Sgrypt Cymru in Wales, Paines Plough, The Royal National Theatre and The Birmingham Reportory Theatre. The Drowned World was premiered by Paines Plough at The Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh during the 2002 Fringe Festival.
Randolf SD|The Company is committed to a theatre practice that is design integrated, politically motivated and intellectually rigorous. Since graduating from the Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College, its members have worked with some of Ireland’s leading theatre companies and practitioners, including The Abbey Theatre, Opera Ireland, Rough Magic Theatre Company, Loose Canon and Bedrock.
This is its third production at the Project Arts Centre and follows on from the success of the sell out run of The Illusion (“A joy to watch” – The Irish Times). The company debuted with at the ESB Dublin Fringe Festival in 2003 with a production of Eeeugh!topia, at the Project Arts Centre.
Project are supporting Randolf SD’s production, The Drowned World, as part of its commitment to support emerging artists and companies in creating new and engaging work.
