THE CAMBRIA
It was the start of an eventful journey.
OjXSexjK-PQ
The Cambria was a trans-Atlantic paddlesteamer. In 1845, among her passengers out of Boston was escaped African-American slave, Frederick Douglass. His just-published life story had become a best-seller. With a price placed on his head by slave-holders he was forced to flee the US and headed for Ireland.
The Cambria tells the story of how Douglass survived an attempt on his life, and went on to become what Abraham Lincoln called “the most impressive man I ever met”.
“Entertaining, thought provoking and beautifully crafted….”
Fintan O’Toole – The Irish Times
“A Gripping play … a highly commendable production”
