SERIOUS MONEY ROUGH MAGIC AIB SEEDS SHOWCASE

Dates: 14 Nov - 14 Nov

Tickets: €15

“If you stay ugly, god knows what your fate is. But sexy greedy IS the late eighties.”

When young financier Jake Todd is found dead under mysterious circumstances, his sister Scilla gets on the case. Did a dodgy deal go sour? Was someone after his enormous fortune? Or did he finally get a conscience and commit suicide?

With a chilling resonance for our own time, Scilla takes on the jobbers, bankers and spin-doctors in the rabid and rapacious world of 1980s London finance. In this athletic rendition of Caryl Churchill’s mercilessly funny play, stock traders sing, seduce and chug champagne as they battle to make it to the top.

This production is part of the Rough Magic AIB SEEDS Showcase 2009, a pioneering initiative to seek out, enable, encourage, develop and stage the work of a new generation of theatre talent.

The Showcase will also include an 6.00pm performance of Chistopher Shinn’s Dying City and readings of two new plays directed by Lynne Parker and Tom Creed.

REAL DEAL – SEE BOTH SHOWS IN THE ROUGH MAGIC AIB SEEDS SHOWCASE FOR JUST €25!

Company Philip Connaughton presents MAMAFESTA MEMORIALISING (To not forget or be forgotten)

This month critically acclaimed choreographer Philip Connaughton brings his beautiful, sparkling, laugh-out-loud meditation on the fear of forgetting and of being forgotten to Cork and Dublin venues. Mamafesta Memorialising, which enjoyed its successful international premiere in France last year, is woven from inspirations including musical theatre, Bruce Forsythe’s Generation Game and most importantly, Philip’s mum Madeleine, who has senile dementia. Philip made his last piece, Assisted Solo, about her. But it wasn’t enough. He still has more to do and more to say. He’s worried that what’s happening to her will happen to him. His latest testimony to an ever-evolving,…
