LOIN...(FAR...)

Dates: 01 Jan - 20 May

Tickets: €22

A multimedia performance mixing dance, video footage and sound, inspired by a father’s war journal. Loin…retraces the steps of a journey made over fifty years ago to ask how people deal with the aftermath of violence.

Based on his father’s journals written during the French occupation of Algeria and his subsequent time fighting for the French in Indochina, and on official and unofficial memories of others, Ouramdane asks, how do people deal with the aftermath of violence?

From Algeria to Vietnam and Cambodia, Ouramdane’s solo investigates the layered and ever-changing nature of identity – identities we inherit, create, project and abandon.

Company Philip Connaughton presents MAMAFESTA MEMORIALISING (To not forget or be forgotten)

This month critically acclaimed choreographer Philip Connaughton brings his beautiful, sparkling, laugh-out-loud meditation on the fear of forgetting and of being forgotten to Cork and Dublin venues. Mamafesta Memorialising, which enjoyed its successful international premiere in France last year, is woven from inspirations including musical theatre, Bruce Forsythe’s Generation Game and most importantly, Philip’s mum Madeleine, who has senile dementia. Philip made his last piece, Assisted Solo, about her. But it wasn’t enough. He still has more to do and more to say. He’s worried that what’s happening to her will happen to him. His latest testimony to an ever-evolving,…
