Did Gerry Ryan really kill and eat that lamb with his bare hands?
In 1987 the Gay Byrne radio show dumped Gerry Ryan and some other volunteers in the wilds of Connemara. They were to survive with no materials or money, just an SAS handbook. When they reported that they had killed and eaten a lamb, it sparked national controversy and was even raised in the Dáil. It was a story ahead of its time, foreshadowing reality TV and modern media feeding-frenzies.
But do you really want to know the truth, or would you prefer a good story?
