Project Arts Centre hosts Dublin Theatre Festival
In the beginning there was nothing. Then there was light. Then darkness. And then light again…
Germinal is a playful and inventive production in which four performers draw from sources as diverse as philosophy, strategy video games and the films of Jacques Demy to conjure a universe in a black box. Using simple theatre tools – mixers, microphones, intercoms – they discover telepathy and invent speech, moving quickly to construct the very foundations of social interaction. The explorers map reality bit by bit in speech bubbles, on digital screens and in exuberant sing-alongs. As their environment becomes increasingly complex, a challenge is posed: in a world-system founded on categories and classifications, how can they maintain togetherness?
Halory Goerger and Antoine Defoort move freely between visual art, music and interactive performance, combining their eclectic interests to create constantly shifting visions of theatre.
