A SPLENDID MESS

Tickets: 12

This hilarious and surreal comedy is inspired by the films of Jacques Tati who was likened in his day to a French Chaplin or Buster Keaton and whose films have been described as silent films with sound. Taking this heightened use of sound almost as it’s main character, Locus theatre Co have created a beautiful new work where we look through the windows of an assembly of characters as they deal with the absurdity of the everyday. With minimum dialogue and maximum mischievousness this stylish comedy is guaranteed to warm your hearts

ACTION; “City Arts had some of the best shows at this years Fringe, including the inventive devised piece Action from Locus Theatre Company. With more than one nod in the direction of Beckett and Ionesco, the cast of 7 find themselves trapped together in their world and time. Trying to make sense of their predicament what ensued was a hilarious and poignant interweaving of dialogue and choreography as each character attempted to establish an identity and motivation for their situation. The scene where the 7 descend ravenously upon a roast chicken was a standout; in the small performance space, the audience could actually smell the meat. Luring us gradually into their world Locus wove a spell with Action. It made for unmissable theatre” IRISH THEATRE MAGAZINE
ACTION;” Director Caroline McSweeney and her able ensemble craft several visually beautiful and physical rigorous moments… the company shows a taste for the challenging work” Irish Times
SAVAGE LOVE/TONGUES;”All examined during a cleverly executed and enjoyable piece of theatre directed by Caroline McSweeney” Independent
“Locus Theatre shows a bright spark of original creativity and dogged determination” Cork Examiner
CARSHOW “But a personal favourite must be Static Cling acerbic humour overflows… a cleverly played out scenario of sibling rivalry manipulation and exploitation. Fine performance by Annie Ryan and Gertrude Montgomery. Cleverly directed by Caroline McSweeney”Irish Times
BEDROCK’S THEATRE OF CRUELTY “The closets that comes to Artaud is Heiner Muller’s short but dense Obituary… Caroline McSweeney’s fine production manages to give it both formal coherence and intellectual conviction and in her direction of the movement of Karl Shields, Michelle Read and Shane Lynch, the idea of the body in theatre is given an expression that is closer to Artaud’s vision than any other part of the evening.”Fintan O Toole Irish Times
