SONGS IN HER SUITCASE

Songs in Her Suitcase is a puppet show for adults based on the incredible life of Agnes Bernelle.

The company will bring her untold story vividly to life using a combination of puppetry, original film and music, with the association of one of Agnes’s collaborators, Philip Chevron of the Pogues.

Songs In Her Suitcase travels from Hitler’s Berlin to the stages of Soho and on to Castle Leslie, Co Monaghan and portrays Agnes Bernelle’s experiences as a refugee in London, her work as a fifteen year old agent for the American OSS, her single motherhood, open marriage and success in resuming her solo career. Puppetry makes possible a reincarnation of her fantastic cabaret performances, featuring songs by Brecht and Weill, Tom Waits and the quirky Ringelnatz.

“The puppeteers are unobtrusively perfect in every physical and vocal nuance. A small stage gem that sparkles brightly.” Gerry Colgan, The Irish Times

“This short little show, performed with such affection and precision is a telling example of the power of puppetry.” Grania McFadden, The Belfast Telegraph

“It is a great joy to witness a team of artists working with the utmost respect for their materials and their craft, able to produce great art from a simple, deep vocabulary of word and gesture.” Ciaran Carson, The Irish Examiner

In association with Project Arts Centre, Dublin.
