IPHIGENIA IN AULIS
When Helen, Queen of Sparta, abandons her husband for the Prince of Troy a thousand ships are launched on a mission to reclaim her and to punish Troy.
When the fleet is becalmed at Aulis, goddess Artemis decrees if Agamemnon will sacrifice his daughter to her then she will send a wind to drive them on to war. His daughter, Iphigenia, is summoned but when her mother, Clytemnestra, uncovers the plan she resolves to halt the sacrifice at any cost.
Following successful productions of The Bacchae and Oedipus the King, Classic Stage Ireland continues to explore the world of Ancient Greek drama with this most controversial and variously interpreted of Euripides’ great tragedies.
There will be a post show discussion following the performances on Wednesday 22 and Monday 27 June.
