HEAR AND NOW (SENSORIUM)

19.30 – HEAR AND NOW Improvisation session involving workshop participants and invited guests. Open to the public. €5/3 (CONC)

The evening concert is an improvisation session that will involve performances by workshop participants and a select number of performers invited to improvise in various formations and instrumental groupings. This promises to be an exciting night of unexpected music and sound both electronic and acoustic, introduced by the Higgstrument.

WORKSHOPS

14.00-16.00 – Sound improvisation workshop with LAURA HYLAND.*

Laura will be running a Sound Improvisation Workshop in which participants are encouraged to explore both their instrument and their perception of sound and music in new ways, through playing with each other in duets, trios and quartets. Anyone with an interest in sound creation is welcome to sign up.

16.00-18.00 – Higgstrument – Construction and implementation of an invented instrument by GEORGE HIGGS.*

George will be discussing the acoustical concepts, design and construction of his newest Higgstrument – an audacious aggregate of metallophones, aerophones, idiophones, chordophones and electro acoustical apparatuses funded by the Arts Council – giving an insight into the fundamentals of sound along the way, culminating in an exciting performance at the start of the evening’s festivities.

* participants need to sign up for the workshops. Contact judering@gmail.com
